My must-have software tools

I recently went through the process of setting up a new development environment at work and in the process created this list of tools that I use on a daily basis. I’m sharing the list here as much for my own future reference as anything else.

I’ve divided the list into sections based on what aspects of my job require that particular tool. Hopefully that makes it a bit easier to digest everything. I imagine I’ll probably make many updates to this post, as this changes over time.
General PC utilities
  • Google Chrome
  • Executor
  • Firefox + firebug
  • Notepad++
  • Paint.Net
  • Shotty

General ASP.Net development
  • Visual Studio 2012
  • Productivity Power Tools plugin for VS2012
  • Resharper
  • ANTS Performance Profiler
  • Fiddler2
  • Beyond Compare 2
  • Console2
  • 7zip

Specific to my current job (SharePoint development)
  • TortoiseSVN
  • CKSDev plugin for VS2012
  • TestDriven.Net
  • MOSS Search Coder
  • SharePoint Designer

I may go into more detail about specific items on this list later. For example, I might share my keywords file for Executor or my settings for Console2. Hopefully this list is at least a helpful starting point.
A great tool for installing many of the items above is Ninite. I definitely encourage you to check it out.
